A four-by-eight panel is the sign that gets remembered, and it is also the one that ends up folded around a fence post after a storm. The reason is simple physics: doubling the dimensions quadruples the area, and the load the wind puts on it climbs faster than anybody expects standing in a car park on a calm day.

So the panel is the cheap half and the frame is the product. We quote the framing timber or steel, the post spacing, the depth the posts need to go, and whether the panel needs wind slits or a vented design in an exposed location. A four-by-eight on two shallow stakes is a kite with a name on it.

Why do large signs blow down so often?
Because the area grows far faster than the framing usually does. A four-by-eight is a sail: the load on it in a gust is enormous compared with a yard sign, and two shallow stakes cannot hold it. The frame, the post spacing and the set depth are the actual product, and we quote all three.
Do I need wind slits?
On an exposed site, yes, and they cost you very little visually. Slits or a vented panel let a gust pass through instead of loading the whole face. On a sheltered site they are unnecessary and we will not add them for the sake of it.
